The Bitou Municipality in Plettenberg Bay is celebrating a significant milestone reached in the history of the Local Authority.
Mayor, Memory Booysen, says the Bitou Municipality has received its first ever clean audit from the auditor general since 1995.
He says this is a remarkable achievement especially considering the financial difficulty in which the Council found itself in a few years ago.
Mayor Booysen says upon closure of the 2011/2012 financial period, the Municipality was in a dire negative cash position of approximately R12 million and owed approximately R20 million to creditors.
He says since then the DA-run Council has put systems in place to ensure proper processes and procedures for procurement as well as financial and performance management.
Booysen says the Council has also strengthened its oversight and review processes to ensure a clean administration.
