The Anti-Gang Unit has recovered two firearms in separate incidents in Port Elizabeth's Northern areas at the weekend.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members were patrolling in Harrington Street in Arcadia late on Friday evening when they spotted three men running in different directions.
One of them threw something over a church wall as he ran.
The three managed to escape, but police recovered a 9mm pistol, which will be sent for ballistic tests.
The firearm's serial number was filed off.
Colonel Naidu says in the second incident on Saturday night, a shooting took place outside a tavern in Booysens Park, where a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg.
The victim said that he was walking in the street with his girlfriend when he was shot by an alleged gang member.
Naidu says while still at the scene, Anti-Gang Unit members searched the tavern and found a pistol hidden under a table.
She says the firearm was reported stolen in Landsdowne in February 1989.
Several people were questioned, but no arrests had been made.
The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit is investigating a case of attempted murder.
