Eastern Cape police said that the situation at their single living quarters at Mount Road police station in Port Elizabeth has been rectified and the living quarters have been cleaned up.
This after a video, filmed by police officials of the filthy state of the building, went viral on social media on Tuesday.
It showed large amounts of rubbish dumped on the stairwell between certain floors.
In a statement, Eastern Cape police management said that situation was regrettable as resources for waste management are provided at the living quarters.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, says as the matter involves members and employees of the SA Police Service, who are fully aware of the rules of the occupation of living quarters, it will also be investigated internally.
