Fifteen perish in weekend EC crashes

File

The Eastern Cape Transport Department blamed reckless driving and speeding as the main causes of several accidents this weekend that claimed at least 15 lives.

Department spokesperson, Makaya Komisa, said six people died in a major head-on collision yesterday on the R-61 at Tarkastad.

He said a minibus hit a stray cow and overturned, resulting in six fatalities while ten passengers were injured.

Komisa says Transport MEC, Xolile Nqata's expressed shock at the numerous fatalities.

He said the MEC continues to urge our motorists to be vigilant when driving, especially at night.

Komisa said MEC Nqata also called on farmers to take care of their livestock to avoid accidents on the province’s roads.
