The Freedom Front Plus said it would submit a private members bill proposing amendments to current firearm legislation.
FFPlus leader, Dr Pieter Groenewald, says this follows last week's Constitutional Court ruling upholding current legislation, particularly sections that require firearm owners to renew their licences 90 days before the expiration date.
The court ruling left more than 400-thousand gun owners effectively being in possession of illegal firearms.
Groenewald says the only solution to the problem is to amend legislation to give gun owners a more reasonable opportunity to renew their licenses even after the expiry date and without them losing ownership of their weapons.
He says in the case of the late renewal of a motor car license, the person is only subject to a fine.
"You can compare it with a motor licence if it has expired then you can still renew it after the expiry date, you will pay a fine, but your property will not be confiscated by the Government, and that is exactly what is happening with the firearms now and, therefore my proposal in the private members bill, will regulate the whole situation on the renewal of firearm licences so that people can pay a fine, but still be the owners of their property" he said.
