A female Provincial Traffic Official has been gunned down in Gqeberha by suspects who also robbed her and a colleague of their firearms.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the incident happened on Wednesday morning while two female and a male officer were on duty at a vehicle checkpoint on the R75 near Kwadwesi.
She said the male officer was standing in the road while his one female colleague was busy writing out a summons and the other female officer was sitting in the driver’s seat busy with documentation.
Naidu said four men approached and pointed a firearm at the male officer and disarmed him.
She said the 42-year-old female officer who was still seated in the car attempted to react but was shot in the chest and her firearm also taken.
Naidu said she died on the scene.
A case of murder and aggravated robbery is under investigation while the hunt for the perpetrators is underway.
