Fed up residents to 'shut down' Komani

The Komani Protest Action Committee says civil society and business have indicated support for the call for the Enoch Mgijima Municipality to be dissolved.

Committee member, Solimizi Nkwentsha, says service delivery has gone downhill since the Municipality was placed under administration, and there's been a lack of service delivery since November last year.

He says the Enoch Mgijima Council needs to be dissolved because it is currently dysfunctional.

Nkwentsha says the residents will shut down the town on Thursday until the relevant Government Ministers address their needs.

"That is our aim," he said.

Meanwhile, concerned School Governing Bodies have indicated that this is a major concern for the beginning of the academic year adding that schools are at liberty to release learners and educators as their safety is the priority.

The Border-Kei Chamber said in a message to members that while it encouraged all displays of active citizenry, it does not support any acts of vandalism or violence.
