Police in Port Alfred are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a tragic accident on Sunday night.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the accident happened on the R72 opposite a high school just before midnight.
She says a family was involved in an accident and the 53-year-old Julian Esbach and his son were attending to their family members.
Colonel Naidu says when they walked back to their VW Golf, a Polo travelling east along the R72 lost control and hit the Golf, before colliding into Esbach.
She says the man died on the scene.
The 31-year-old driver of the Polo sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital.
