A large group of protesters gathered outside the East London Magistrates Court on Thursday where a father made his first court appearance for allegedly killing his son.
Thirty-seven-year-old Sazizo Mbanjana allegedly fetched the child from his mother's house earlier this month and took him into the bushes where his throat was slit.
Community members saw him going into the bushes and immediately called the police, who found Mbanjana on the scene with the murder weapon.
When news just broke of the murder of Sinobom Tywantsi police erroneously reported that the victim was a toddler.
Tywantsi was a learner at the Overton Primary School when he was killed.
A leader of the community who spoke to Algoa FM News outside court, Leonard Ncumbese, described Mbanjana as an animal who does not deserve to be called a human being.
He said protesters signed a petition containing about 300 signatures to oppose bail.
Mbanjana made a very brief court appearance where he was advised to abandon his bid for bail.
The matter was postponed to the 22nd of November for further investigation.
