Five farm workers have been arrested and charged with malicious damage to property and attempted murder following an incident near Coega.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says on Sunday afternoon, the 53-year-old farmer noticed that his bakkie was missing from his yard.
She says he suspected that his farmworkers might have taken it and reported the alleged theft to the police.
At 6 pm, the workers returned and were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Colonel Naidu says two tried to attack the farmer who ran inside the house and locked the doors.
She says the workers also damaged the bakkie's door and windows.
Police were summoned to the scene and all five workers aged between 28 and 54 were arrested.
They are expected to appear in court soon.
