Its been three days since two prisoners made a daring escape out of a police vehicle which was travelling towards the N2 on-ramp from the R62 through Kareedouw towards Port Elizabeth.
One of the men, 22-year-old Jason Witbooi was an awaiting trial prisoner, for allegedly beating a retired farmer from Joubertina to death.
The 69-year-old Norman Ludwig was found murdered outside his house in October last year.
Police Captain Gerda Swart says Witbooi was arrested soon after Ludwig's murder.
He escaped out of a police van on Tuesday while being transported back to the St Albans Prison in Port Elizabeth after making a brief appearance in court in Joubertina.
Witbooi allegedly beat Ludwig to death and stole his money, bank cards and other personal items.
The suspect escaped along with a fellow prisoner, 27-year-old Bonginkosi Mgaqi, who is facing a charge of culpable homicide.
Both men are still on the run.
