Family members hand over man accused of killing his child

A 32 year old Grahamstown man will appear in court on Thursday in connection with the death of a nine month old baby.

Police said the baby, who was strapped to his mother's back, died when the man allegedly assaulted the woman during an argument last Friday.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, says the man, who had been on the run since then, was handed over to police by relatives on Wednesday following the child's funeral.

She says he will face a charge of murder when he appears in the Grahamstown Magistrates Court.
