A 36-year-old woman will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate Court on Friday on a charge of defeating the ends of justice after making a false claim that she had been hijacked.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the woman reported that two men had forced her out of her car Kia Picanto in Lavinia Street while she was sitting in the vehicle.
She said a short while later, members from SAPS Mount Road recovered the vehicle in the same street with a suspect inside.
"After he was detained on a charge of vehicle hijacking, investigations revealed that he was the boyfriend of the complainant and that they had an argument," Naidu said.
She said after further questioning by the police "the woman confessed to police that she had fabricated the story of being hijacked."
Naidu said the woman was arrested on Wednesday and charged with defeating the ends of justice and warned to appear in court. The boyfriend was also released.
