Facebook page highlights "poor service delivery" at PE's Livingstone Hospital

Eastern Cape Health MEC, Dr Pumza Dyantyi, says systems are in place to address the publics grievances about poor service delivery at health institutions.

She's is in Nelson Mandela Bay this week on an Outreach Programme with the Department's Rapid Response Team which has been going around the province to assess the conditions at health institutions with a view to giving them the necessary support.

MEC Dyantyi says part of the programme is then to go back to the facilities to see if the problems identified have been corrected.

Meanwhile, the MEC says she's not aware of a facebook page that was started to highlight poor service levels at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth.

However, she says systems are in place to address the grievances of members of the public.

"During my policy speech I did indicate that we are going to be visiting areas to check on the six core national standards and this is exactly what we are doing," Dyantyi said.

The Facebook page - stoplivingstonenegligence - was established by Reverend Michael Hutchinson following the recent death of an uncle.

Hutchinson says he started the Facebook page in July to raise public awareness of the "severe medical negligence" at Livingstone Hospital and to try and get the Department of Health and Government involved to take action against this.

"Many people are suffering abuse, not getting proper medical treament, left around for hours on end or even in case, death. My whole intention is to make a stand, not on a legal case (sic) but to make a stand and get the public part of this to take action," he said.
