A search involving sea rescue craft from three NSRI stations at St Francis Bay, Jeffrey's Bay and Oyster Bay is continuing for a 36-year-old man missing overboard of a local charter fishing vessel.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says the NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew was activated on Tuesday night following reports that a local fisherman had fallen overboard of the fishing vessel between two and four nautical miles off-shore of the Krom River Mouth.
An extensive search of the area was immediately initiated while NSRI shore crews and Police also conducted shoreline patrols.
Lambinon says the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre diverted a fishing vessel to the area to assist in the search.
The search continued at first light on Wednesday while aircraft flying in the area have been asked to keep a look out.
The Police Dive Unit has been alerted and Police divers and the Police K9 Search and Rescue Unit will also join in the search.
Lambinon said the NSRI's thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the missing man in this difficult time - his name has not yet been released.
