The Sunday's River Citrus Company says the European Union's suspension of citrus imports from South Africa is not too detrimental on this year's exports to the EU.
Managing Director, Ken Nieuwenhuizen, says most of this year's crops have already been exported to the EU, which accounts for about a third of South African exports.
He told Algoa FM News that the ban seems to be a symbolic gesture as they have been threatening for ages and the season is already over.
However, Nieuwenhuizen says while the ban will not affect the 2013 season the question is what will happen next year.
"The ban is for the rest of this year until the end of 2013, so between now and the start of our exports next year, a lot of diplomatic and political discussions will have to take place, so that we can work out some sort of a solution." Nieuwenhuizen said.
