Detectives in George are investigating a charge of fraud against Ettienne Scheepers whose wife, Heidi, died with her two children after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed over a cliff at Voëlklip in Herolds Bay in October 2019.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says the couple managed a business together called, Herold's Café that was sold by Scheepers 14-months ago.
He says the business, however, is part of an estate that still needs to be settled.
The charges were laid by the new owner of the Café.
Meanwhile, Pojie says the investigation into the death of Heidi and her two children, two-year-old Hugo and six-year-old Cozette, is almost complete.
Cozette's body was never found.
An autopsy report revealed that Heidi and Hugo drowned.
The Search and Rescue team at the time first found Hugo's body and later his 35-year-old mother Heidi.
The story sent shockwaves throughout the community who can still not accept the possibility that Heidi might have deliberately driven her VW Caravelle over the cliff.
It was widely reported at the time that Heidi and her husband Ettienne had an argument just hours before the tragedy.
Since the Scheepers tragedy, several people have committed suicide at the same spot.
