The Eastern Cape Liquor Board testified in the East London Magistrate's Court on Thursday of the responsibilities the Enyobeni tavern owners had in keeping underage children out of their establishment.
Senior Licensing Manager, Pumlani Tyali, said Vuyokazi Ndevu had been registered as the license holder for more than ten years.
As such, she was lawfully expected to know the Liquor Act and be held fully liable for everything that happens at the tavern - even in her absence.
The Liquor Board laid charges against the husband and wife duo after 21 young persons died in the tavern in June last year.
The case was postponed to 23 August.
