Motorists travelling on the R-72 between East London and Port Elizabeth have spoken of dicing with death as workers manning stop and go's near East London went on strike.
Algoa FM has received several independent accounts of near misses when vehicles were just let through the strikers.
Port Elizabeth resident, Ricardo Petronio, said he and his wife had passed a Stop and Go at Cove Rock when his wife alerted one of the workers that a road barrier had been blown over.
However, Petronio says the worker told his wife that there was a strike underway.
AlgoaFM asked Sanral to to respond to the alleged strike. They confirmed that no Sanral staff were manning the stop-and-go points on the R72, near East London.
"Stop-and-go sections were left unmanned for a short period by the workers, however resident engineers and other Sanral staff are now manning these points. At this point the workers who usually work at the stop-and-go sections are currently on an unofficial strike. They have not yet made their concerns known to us." they said
