Emotional scenes at Steenkamp funeral

There were emotional scenes outside the Port Elizabeth crematorium on Tuesday where slain PE model Reeva Steenkamp was laid to rest.

Speaking at an informal media briefing on the grass outside the quaint chapel, Reeva's uncle, Mike, broke down in tears.

"We are here today as a family but there's only one thing missing is Reeva," he said choking back the tears.

"I will get over it with the Lord's prayers," Mike Steenkamp added.

Reeva's step brother Adam said their was a space missing and that the family would try to continue with the things that Reeva had striven to make better.

"Everyone is sad understandably. But, at a certain point we were smiling whilst remembering Reeva because we only have good memories of her," he said.

Reeva's cousin Sharon said the support for the family had been overwhelming.

"Just basically want to thank everybody for their support and their love for the family. Reeva is going to be missed but we know it is her love that it's in our hearts and it's going to stay in our hearts forever and that's something nobody will ever take from us."

Among the mourners at Steenkamp's funeral was well-know PE jockey Gavin Venter, who had some strong words to say about Pistorius.

"I asked her father, her father said she was very happy with Oscar, there were no problems. But, maybe she was hiding it away. I'm disgusted at what he did and he must be dealt with harshly," Venter said.

A former school mate and close friend of Steenkamp, Bongiwe Gaxamba, said she did not believe that Pistorius should be granted bail.

She said she would miss Reeva's smile the most.
