Emotional harassment case investigated in Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay police are investigating a case of emotional harassment of an elderly person - following the videotaping of the alleged incident in a care home.

A copy of the video has been handed to the police. It shows an 81-year-old woman, who suffers from an advanced stage of dementia, allegedly being emotionally harassed by two employees of the Elsje-home, in which she lives.

It was reportedly filmed on the 9th of this month. The manager of the home handed over the video footage but no-one has been arrested.

The video shows the shift leader taunting the victim. It shows one of the staff pushing the shift leader towards the victim's face and jerking her away again. Directly thereafter it can be seen how the staff present laughs at the victim, clearly finding the situation amusing. It appears that the victim does not want the support staff to touch her. The support staff clearly ignores this by repeatedly pretending to touch her, while the victim sits helplessly in a wheelchair. (Louise Karsten)
