Two police officials stationed at the Elliot station are expected to appear in the Mthatha Specialised Crimes Court on Monday following their arrest on allegations of theft.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says the officials aged 40 and 46 were tasked with the collection of bail monies, traffic and admission of guilt fines from the Community service Centre to deliver to the Elliot Magistrates Court.
She says it is alleged that the officers never delivered the money and used it for their personal gain.
Suspicion was raised when accused persons asked for their bail monies to be returned following the finalisation of their trial process.
When the officers could not produce the money the matter was referred to the Hawks for investigation which culminated in the arrest of the duo.
