Eastern Cape police have re-arrested five of seven awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Elliot police holding cells.
They escaped on Wednesday evening after overpowering officers, taking a firearm from one of them.
Provincial police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni says the re-arrest of the first suspect, aged 21, was effected within five hours of escape while another four were captured in and around Elliot between midnight and the early hours of Friday morning.
He says police are still hot on the heels of Dumisani Tom and Sfundo Sothondoshe.
