A number of areas in Port Elizabeth were still without power a while ago, following last night's fierce electric storm.
The bright lighing lit up the night sky from about one o'clock on Wednesday morning, accompanied by loud thunder which woke thousands of residents.
The social media feed from users in the city, which is normally in a state of slumber at the time, was abuzz with posts as people related their experiences.
Facebook lit up with posts, many of them pleas about missing and frightened cats and dogs.
No reports of injuries or damage were received, but the power interruption did cause some disruption.
Municipal spokesperson Kupido Baron says teams are currently working on the power outages.
He did not give any time frame, but says they will restore the power supply as soon as possible.
"Various rural areas and sections of Walmer and surrounding areas are off due to the storms last night our Chevrolet substation was struck by lightning and a supply line is off. We are working on the problem" he said
