Police in Willowvale have arrested a 20-year-old man for the alleged rape of a 76-year-old granny, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.
It was alleged that the victim had attended a traditional ceremony on Friday at Mantlanani location, Nkanga village, Willowvale, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
“The victim was seen sleeping next to her relative along the street during the evening of the same date.” She was allegedly raped by the 20-year-old suspect at about 9pm on Friday night, he said.
Butterworth cluster police have been advising communities to end their traditional ceremonies at 5pm to avoid crimes such as rape, murder, and robberies. The suspect was arrested on Saturday and would appear in the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Manatha said.
