Elderly woman (95) found murdered in Uitenhage house

A 95-year-old woman has been found murdered in her home in Uitenhage.

Sergeant Majola Nkohli says the victim  cannot be named at this stage as there is the suspicion that she was also raped during the incident.

Sergeant Nkohli says a neighbour found the body of the woman lying on the floor in the lounge of a house in Luyt Street, Uitenhage, at around 5.30 on Thursday afternoon.

The victim appears to have been strangled with a telephone cord.

At this stage the motive remains unknown and nothing appears to be missing from the house.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the investigating officer -Warrant Officer Jacques Nel - of the Uitenhage police.
