An 83-year-old man sustained a stab wound to the arm when five men stormed into a farmhouse in the Kirwood area in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkholi, said the incident took place on Sunday morning.
He said the men, armed with knives, made off with a firearm and ammunition, which was in the safe.
"It is said that the suspects also made off with some household items," Nkohli said.
The injured man was treated on the scene while his 80-year-old wife was not injured.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of the suspects to contact Detective Captain Freddie Moss on 082 319 9227 or Kirkwood police.
