The NSRI at Knysna has rescued a 73-year-old man from Australia who fell while hiking on the Featherbed Trail, on the sea side of the Western Knysna Head.
NSRI Knysna station commander Graeme Harding says a volunteer sea rescue crew was activated at around midday on Monday.
On arrival at the scene, the NSRI rescuers hiked to the position of the injured hiker, at Needles, where he was found to have sustained head injuries and lacerations to both legs.
The patient, 73 year-old Brian Smith from Newcastle, Australia was stretchered out of the area and transported to hospital in an ER24 ambulance.
