Eastern Cape police are searching for four suspect who brutally assaulted an elderly man in his home in Maclear.
Police spokesperson, captain Ursula Roelofse, says 87-year-old Koot van Dyk, was assaulted with a pipe and tied up by two men who ransacked his home.
When they could not open a safe they were joined by two other men who then helped them carry the safe away.
Roelofse says the incident was reported to the police at six o'clock on Tuesday morning.
She says Van Dyk was rushed to a hospital in East London.
