A 76-year-old man was badly assaulted and stabbed during a house robbery on a smallholding in Uitenhage Road, Withoogte.
Police Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says at approximately 2 pm on Tuesday the victim's ex-wife, who also lives on the smallholding, hear a commotion coming from the main house and she alerted the community via a WhatsApp group.
She says neighbours immediately responded and succeeded in arresting one of the two suspects.
The victim was stabbed with a knife and garden fork and sustained injuries to his head, arms and multiple bruises over the rest of his body.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the man is currently in hospital.
The 22-year-old suspect is being detained on charges of house robbery and will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates Court next week.
His accomplice is still at large.
