File

Eastern Cape police are searching for the killer of a 78-year-old woman whose body was found by her family on Sunday in KwaTshweni Location at Dutywa.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said they are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in apprehending the suspect, to contact the police.

He said the deceased, who was left at home by her family to attend a family gathering, was last seen by neighbours collecting sheep from the grazing camp on Saturday afternoon.

Kinana said when the woman's family returned on Sunday afternoon they discovered her body on a mattress, and immediately alerted the police.

"The deceased sustained serious injuries on the upper body. It has not yet been established what type of instrument was used in the commission of this serious crime.

SAPS are investigating a case of murder, and Kinana said the circumstances surrounding the incident form part of that.

He said Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene said she was shocked at the killing of yet another woman.

"Anyone with information that can assist the investigation should contact the investigating officer Sergeant Malwande Mhlanga of Dutywa SAPS on 079 624 0946 or alternatively SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
