An elderly Alexandria woman suffered slight injuries after being attacked by four men in her farmhouse in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson, captain Mali Govender, says the men gained entry to the farmhouse shortl after 1am by bending the burglar bars and forcing open a sliding door.
"The victim awoke with a start when her bedroom light was switched on. She noticed four men in her bedroom all wearing balaclavas and gloves," Govender said.
"They pinned her down to her bed, throttled her and tied her hands behind her back and feet together with pieces of clothing. One remained in her room while the others started to ransacked the house," she added.
Govender said the suspects took the keys to both her vehicles and drove off in one, a Ford Bantam LDV which was later recovered abandoned on the main street in Alexandria.
"After the suspects left at approximately 04:20, the victim managed to cut herself loose and phoned the police," Govender said.
"The victim sustained injuries and bruises on her hands, face and neck. She has received medical treatment. A case of House robbery is under investigation and no arrests have been made."
