Elderly Eastern Cape woman arrested for illegal firearm

A 60-year-old woman from Bityi in the former Transkei has been arrested for allegedly being in posession of an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off.

However, police spokesperson lieutenant-colonel Mzukisi Fatyela, says they found no ammunition in her posession.

He says the woman will appear in court on Monday.

Meanwhile, two women, aged 34 and 39, were arrested for the murder of a 40-year-old man.

Fatyela says its alleged that the man had assaulted his girlfriend who then fought back and with the help of her sister they allegedly beat the man to death.

The sisters are also due in court on Monday.
