Three men who allegedly robbed an elderly couple outside their home in St Francis Bay on Monday have been arrested.
A spokesperson for police Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the couple, who are in their seventies, arrived at their home in Galjoen Street in Oyster Bay at about 6.30 pm when the husband noticed unknown men seated opposite his home.
She says he approached them and asked them about their business.
When he turned around to leave, one man grabbed him from behind holding a knife while another produced a firearm.
Colonel Naidu says they tried to force the couple into their home but they put up a fight and started to scream.
The suspects eventually ran off with the woman's handbag and the complainant's firearm.
Colonel Naidu says an alert was circulated and various roleplayers including members of the community rallied together to hunt for the suspects.
She says shortly before 9 am Humansdorp K9 managed to arrest a 32-year-old suspect who was hiding in the bushes.
The suspect had the woman's handbag as well as a gun that was reported stolen in Gauteng 11 years ago.
Colonel Naidu says the search for the other suspects continued and they were nabbed in the early hours of Tuesday morning- also hiding in the bushes.
Private security companies assisted with the arrests.
Colonel Naidu says the complainant's stolen gun is still missing.
