Elderly couple rescued after overnight ordeal in Zuurberg pass

An elderly couple have been rescued following a four hour rescue operation by the Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage K9 unit.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, police received information about an says 80 year old man and a 68 year old woman who were stranded in a vehicle on the Zuurberg pass.
Govender says it is believed that the couple were on holiday on Wednesday when the vehicle lost control and plummeted down an embankment about one hundred meters.
She says a passer by heard cries at mid day on Thursday and notified the police.
"A rescue operation started which entailed abseiling down the cliff. They managed to bring the couple to safety. This was an integrated operation because the air force helicopter was also present and managed to airlift the couple through to a hospital in Port Elizabeth. They both severely traumatised and are receiving medical care." says Govender.
