The East London zoo is currently undergoing a much need facelift.
Zoo manager Alison Roux says the R2m revamp will increase the size and improve the natural environmental for zoo animals.
A wheel chair ramp has also been installed throughout the zoo.
Roux adds that security is being beefed up following a number of attacks that have been reported on the premises.
The renovations have not affected entrance to the zoo, but a different gate is currently in use.
