A woman from East London is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on Friday for allegedly importing fake branded goods valued at more than R48 million.
She faces 42 983 counts of contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act.
The state alleges that the value of the counterfeit goods that were confiscated amounted to R 48 721 600.
According to the charge sheet, the company Fong Ming Trading, of which the accused is the sole director, had imported the counterfeit goods through Port Elizabeth in June this year.
These included thousands of Bic pens, Gucci, Ferrari and Puma branded watches as well as Dior and Gucci sunglasses.
The woman faces possible fines not exceeding R5000 in respect of each article or item of counterfeit goods to which the offence relates or with imprisonment not exceeding three years, or to both a fine and imprisonment.
