EL police officer in court for allegedly accepting a bribe

An East London policeman appeared in court on Tuesday alongside a foreign national on charges of corruption.

The pair were arrested by the Hawks last week, following operations in Gauteng and East London.

Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, says 41-year-old Sergeant Mbuso Booi allegedly accepted a R5 000 bribe from an accomplice, Kelechi Uzoma, after being assigned to investigate a drugs possession case.

She says it is alleged that the matter was withdrawn in court due to witnesses not being available and allegedly not being subpoenaed on numerous occasions.

The pair were granted bail of R2 000 each and will be back in court again on the 23rd of this month.
