A 30-year-old man is due to appear in court in East London on Monday following a fatal car crash this weekend which left five people dead.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mlulek Mbi, said three people died in the collision between two cars near the SPCA in Amalainda.
He said a bakkie and a VW Golf were travelling in opposite directions when they collided in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“Three occupants of the Golf died on the scene and the other two died in hospital. One person remains in hospital,” he said.
Mbi said the bakkie driver is alleged to have removed his car registration plates and the disc after the accident before fleeing the scene. He was arrested later in Mdantsane.
The suspect faces charges of culpable homicide and for fleeing the crash scene.
