The 23-year-old Mdantsane man who is accused of killing his teenage girlfriend in June last year was found guilty of murder in the Township's Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Sibabalwe Mgijimane was has been in custody since his arrest in August last year.
The body of the deceased 19-year-old Awonke Diko was discovered covered with a blanket at Mgijimane's home and according to a post-mortem report she died of head injuries.
One of the witnesses who was also with the couple on the night of the murder said he had seen Mgijimane slapping Diko in the face while they were still in a tavern in Unit 11.
He also said Mgijimane gave him a lift home and while they were driving, Mgijimane was insulting Diko in the minibus taxi.
According to a doctor's statement, Diko was assaulted prior her death as she had visible scratches inside her mouth bruises on her body and face.
Magistrate Eugine Moss emphasized that murder is a serious crime including violence and abuse against women.
He postponed sentencing to 3 July while he awaits the probation officer's report.
