EL farmer wounded in latest attack

A farmer on the outskirts of East London has been wounded after two suspects broke into his farmhouse in Lillysfontein.

Police spokesperson, captain Steven Marais, says the farmer, who's in his fifties, was rushed to hospital where he is in a stable condition after undergoing surgery.

He was alone at home at the time that the two suspects allegedly broke into his farmstead in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Marais says there appeared to have been a struggle and several shots were fired.

Several fire-arms were also stolen from the farmer.

"We busy on the scene with our forensic investigation and trying to establish how many fire-arms were stolen and what calibre they were. At this stage we opened up cases of attempted murder, house-breaking and theft and we hope to make a breakthrough soon," he said.

Marais has also confirmed that a woman had been attacked in the same area and robbed of two fire-arms and cash.

No arrests have been made in that case.
