EL doctor arrested three times for writing fake sick notes granted bail again

East London Dr Siphokazi Sokupa was granted R3000 bail in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Dr Sokupa was arrested on Thursday, 28 May, through a sting operation which saw her allegedly issuing a sick note to an undercover police agent without examining him.

The Hawks pounced on the 67-year-old doctor after they received complaints from a number of businesses in East London, questioning the legitimacy of the sick notes submitted by their employees, which Dr Sokupa allegedly signed.

She’s been charged with fraud and has been ordered to hand in her passport and not to leave the East London Magisterial Area.

This case was postponed for further investigation to the 23rd of September.

Dr Sokupa also has two other fraud cases pending at the East London Magistrates and Regional Courts for similar offences.
