EL couple in court for alleged fraud at local church

An East London couple appeared briefly in the  city's magistrate's court on Tuesday on 53 counts of fraud and 123 counts of money laundering. 

Police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Marais, says detectives from the Commercial Branch of the Hawks had earlier arrested the couple for allegedly defrauding the Twelve Apostles' Church in Christ in East London of close on R7 million.

Forty six year old Zola Maziyana  and his 38 year-old wife Zukiswa were arrested at their home in Sunnyridge.

They'll be back in court on Wednesday for a formal bail application.
