One of the five East London policemen arrested for drug dealing has been denied bail in the East London Magistrates court.
Constable Reneal Francis and four other officer from the Mdantsane zone 1 police station are facing charges of drug dealing, racketeering and defeating the ends of justice.
The arrest followed a year long investigation by the Hawks after being tipped by the public.
Magistrate Nazeem Joemath denied Francis bail saying his release would jeopardise the proper functioning of the criminal justice system.
He remains in custody until the 29th of this month.
The four other policemen will apply for bail on Thursday.
