Eight suspects made a brief appearance in the Lusikisiki magistrate's court in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday on charges of kidnapping after allegedly holding a family of six captive.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli says 10 men stormed into a home in France Location on Sunday, held the family of six at gunpoint and stole their cellphones and a Toyota bakkie.
He says the victims were taken to a different location where they were held captive before being rescued by the police on Monday.
While one victim was forced to travel with the suspects to withdraw money in Mthatha, police rescued five victims and arrested some of the suspects.
Nkohli says the sixth suspect was found at the Madeira police station after withdrawing cash.
Further investigation led to the arrest of four additional suspects while two vehicles were confiscated in Mthatha.
The case was postponed to Thursday for further investigation.
