Eight police officers arrested for torturing a foreign national to death

Police in Gauteng arrested eight of their colleagues in connection with the torture and murder of a Nigerian National in Vanderbijlpark over a year ago.

The six male and two female officers are accused of interrogating and suffocating the 25-year-old Olamilekan Badmus.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate said a post-mortem conducted by two pathologists, confirmed that Badmus was tortured.

IPID said according to the accused officers they had found drugs on the deceased but this was a false story to cover up their deeds.

The watchdog added its investigation resulted in "hostility" from members of the SA Police.

The Suspects will appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Monday after the Director for Public Prosecutions gave the go-ahead to charge them with torture and murder.
