Eastern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene has implemented the 72-hour activation plan to arrest those responsible for killing eight people and wounding another person in two shooting incidents in Kwanobuhle, in Kariega.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the first incident was reported in Mabi Street at around 11.45 where the bodies of four men were found in a car.
“All sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. A fifth male, also with multiple gunshot wounds, was lying behind the vehicle and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
A sixth person who had already succumbed to his wounds was found lying a few metres further away from the car.
Naidu said the victims were aged between the ages of 18 and 25.
She said the second incident was reported in Zolanqini Street where police found the bodies of three men inside a stolen silver VW Polo, also with multiple gunshot wounds.
She said the three are estimated to be between 32 and 40 years old.
Naidu said police are probing a possible link between the two shootings.
