Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has extended her condolences to the families of the 17 passengers who died in a fatal accident near Cradock at the weekend.
The Minister said she was greatly saddened by the tragedy in which Cradock primary School principal Wimpie van der Merwe and 10-year-older learner Stefanus Ferreira were killed - along with 15 occupants of the taxi whose names have yet to be released.
Fourteen other people were injured and remain in hospital.
