The 19-year-old woman who allegedly murdered her 1-year-old child appeared briefly in the Dutywa Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
The Provincial National Prosecution Authority's Luxolo Tyali has identified the woman as Yonela Gubela.
On the 25th of last month, Gubela was arrested at her home, after community members saw the little girl's body, floating at a nearby dam in Sheshegu Location Ngxakaxha Village Dutywa and reported the matter to the police.
When the police got to scene, they found a floating suitcase that had clothes and a photo which matched the toddler's face.
Tyali told Algoa FM news that Gubela was refused bail because she might cause harm to herself, and will appear again in court on 12 May.
