EC woman guilty of attempted extortion after faking own kidnapping

A Queenstown woman has appeared in court in Port ELizabeth where she was found guilty of attempted extortion.
Police spokesperson,Capt. Sandra van Rensburg says the woman and her boyfriend wanted to draw cash at a bank in Govan Mbeki on Christmas Eve, but had to get clearance from the bank manager because of the large amount.
She says the boyfriend waited inside the bank, while the woman went outside.
Janse van Rensburg says minutes later, the man received a phone call informing him that his girlfriend was kidnapped, and that he needs to pay ransom of R50 000.
The man could not afford it, and he contacted Humewood police.
Janse van Rensburg says police traced the call, which led them to the man's girlfriend.
